What are some of the going rates for locksmith services.

What are some of the going rates for locksmith services? But first we need to understand that the locksmith industry does not have a going rate. This means that each company is responsible for creating it's own rates as the industry is not regulated. So what does that mean to you? It means that if you live in Las Vegas for example, you should call multiple Las Vegas locksmiths and see what seems right for you. But now that we got that out of the way lets see what a recent retired locksmith thinks the going rate should be.

A locksmith Las Vegas service provider who is hired to unlock a vehicle (a common vehicle like GM, Ford, Honda, Toyota) should be in the price range of $80 to $100 max.

Looking to hire a locksmith in Las Vegas to rekey your home? In most cases your home should have between two to four locks. The first two locks ( as long as you have simple common locks like Kwikset) that your having rekeyed should be priced around $85 to $125. This seems very fair as the locksmith has to come out, remove the locks, rekey the locks, and install the locks back on the door. Any lock after that should be around $35 to rekey. Meaning if you have four locks you should be somewhere around $155 to $195. You can also use this link to see what you're likely to pay to have your two locks rekeyed by a licensed Las Vegas locksmith <rekey link>.

What should you pay when locked out of your home? Many locksmiths in Las Vegas will say that they charge the same rate night or day, but some how I believe the charge is quite different. If you're lockout out of your home during day time or regular business hours I would expect the charge to be between $95 to $155 (as long as the Las Vegas locksmith only has to deal with a single lock that is not considered a high security). If the home lockout is after business hours or during late hours, I would expect the lockout to cost $155 to $225 ( and the lockout is simple with no unexpected difficulty).

Need to replace a deadbolt on your home? Keep in mind that the name brand and security grade will make the price vary extremely. But if we're just talking about replacing a simple lock like Kwikset or Schlage here is what you're likely to pay. Most Las Vegas locksmiths will charge you between $95 to $150 to come out and replace a basic Kwikset deadbolt. If you're looking for something a little better (my opinion only) like Schlage your likely to pay between $145 to $225 installed.

As you can see when hiring a locksmith there could be a huge price difference from one company to another. You should always call three locksmith companies and get an understanding to what might be the going rate in your area.

Always use a licensed locksmith, and don't always use the cheapest one but rather the one that sounds honest to you.
